Rounding Up

First of all, I discovered the amusing Tumblr Librarian Shame, courtesy of The Swiss Army Librarian, and this is what I posted:

 

It was the same day I wore my new-via-Ebay Vince Camuto blouse and my less new Halogen blue knit skirt. I even wore my blue glasses. All that blue was very soothing.

The next day I wore another favorite, my black Talbot's surplice top, with a pleated silk skirt and my black and white Everybody peep toes.

On a Rotary Thursday, I wore this Jones New York cardigan and a Talbot's eyelet skirt and my Aquatalia gold pumps. It was a little too eye-catching for a visiting Rotarian and I felt like swatting him away. Shoo fly.
 

And the last outfit I bothered to photograph included a Boden skirt, a pale grey top, my pink cotton cardigan and grey boots.

This outfit could definitely be improved. I'd like a classier pink cardigan (maybe) and definitely a purple pullover top that is heavy enough to wear on its own. I have a pretty purple silk blouse, but it doesn't look right with this skirt. It wasn't quite cool enough to wear my gray cashmere sweater.

It is decidedly fall now, and I've been busting out the boots (yay!) and eyeballing my jackets and trousers. I started writing down everything I wanted at the moment I wanted it, which is usually when I'm picking out an outfit. It makes for an interesting list so far, and hopefully I'll post it next week with some comments.

This weekend I am celebrating Heidi's birthday by seeing Cyrano starring the demon mayor of Sunnydale, Harry Groener. I'm very excited. Mr. Groener got rave reviews in the role, and is of course known for things other than turning into a giant snake and eating the high school principal.

Grey and Gold

This dress was on the chopping block last night. It has been hanging in my closet for six months and I've never worn it. I went on a small sweater dress binge this year and bought three very cheaply on Ebay with varying success. One served as a good tunic but developed a hole and was retired. The other two suffered from short sleeves. A short-sleeved sweater dress is a conundrum - too warm in the summer, too chilly in the fall - OR SO I THOUGHT.

I fiddled with shoes and jewelry, tried a few sweaters on (I'll spare you the dreadful outtakes) and arrived at this.

It looked pretty good without the shawl too, but the color of the shawl is very close to all the gold necklaces I have on (three), and kept my arms cozy at work. I discovered it, still in its plastic wrap, at the bottom of a box of shawls under my bed. I went through a bit of a shawl phase and received several as gifts, all more or less in the same golden brown. After I saw a photo of myself looking full-on Grandma I stopped wearing them so often.

The dress is a bit of a closet orphan, as I could not come up with another way to wear it last night. I could try it with a long sleeved gray top under it, but I think the jewelry would be the same. It has a cowl neck, so jewelry choices are kind of limited. Pumps didn't look right, as the dress and the person in it are fairly voluminous, although tights might help with that, maybe dark green tights?  


It doesn't matter, because by the end of the day I was completely in love with this dress. So snuggly but not hot! The perfect length! Doesn't ride up! Matches the boots! And I do love gold with gray. I have no waist at all in this dress and somehow I don't care. Puzzling, but a good thing, since I put so much damn thought into it.


 

Green and Grey, Miss Holloway

What's missing from this picture is my Joan Holloway pen necklace, which I brought out to lend to a friend today. I put it on and it looked so cute that I realized I should wear it once in a while. I was attending a shower today at our weekly Rotary get-together, for a friend who recently became Mrs. Green, and we were asked to wear green in some form. I felt sad for the men, who could only wear green ties or pocket squares. I wore GREEN AND THEN SOME. Let's start with outerwear.

This is a Nine West beauty, via eBay. It is just the right length, and that wide collar is very flattering. No excitement in the lining, though.

From the ground up: Talbot's gray boots, a Target Merona (via eBay) gray wool skirt, and a Talbot's green cardigan. The color is actually cloverleaf and I love it so much I paid full screaming retail. Notice the three quarter length sleeves. I also have on my pearls from Nerissa, pearl earrings and an opal ring that Ben's Dad gave me many, many years ago. Riley is an excellent matching accessory, being sort of grey and pearl-colored himself.

Silent Running, Blue and Grey

Funnily enough, Friday's choices looked better to the camera than they did in the mirror. This is my blue cotton moto jacket from J. Jill, which is terribly boxy, but I wear it anyway because I love the lightweight fabric and the color. The grey paisley skirt is from Talbot's and is a wrap skirt. Every time I put it on I realize that the inner button is actually a safety pin, and think "Huh. I should fix that." And then hang it back up again. Underneath I have a Talbots tee with lovely ribbon embroidery, and below, the grey suede Talbots boots.

Here's the "embroidery" on the tee - so pretty! The ring and the watch are eBay purchases, and the grape earrings are from the Loft.

Green and Grey

I woke up Monday morning thinking, "Yikes, interviews today!" I had put together outfits for the week without that particular need in mind. (I'm not looking for a job, but rather interviewing prospective candidates for our library)

Luckily, there was something appropriate in the pipeline.


I have struggled with this sweater in other wearings. I love the color (Talbot's, emerald), but the no-close style tends to look boxy without a belt. The dress underneath (Kohl's, Apt. 9) helps out because it is gathered under the bust. I really like green and grey together, and I think the proportions are juuuust right.

Riley is so excited about dinner that he's blurry! Here are the details.

The bee necklace is glass encased in sterling silver. I found it in Cocoa Beach, and when I dithered about having to polish sterling, Heidi said she would come to my house and polish it for me. She has never done so. The bracelet and gray suede boots are from Talbot's, in whom I really should own stock.

By the way, I wore the yellow mesh skirt with the dark denim jacket on Tuesday, and then came home and put it in the Goodwill bag. In my opinion, if you have to fight that hard to make something work, it's too much effort.
